We have a very exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer working for a Chemical Manufacturing company in Manchester on a COMAG tiered site.
Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mechanical systems within a high-hazard COMAH-regulated chemical facility. This role plays a key part in delivering mechanical engineering projects, providing technical expertise, contributing to process safety efforts, and ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver mechanically-biased engineering projects from concept through to execution.
  • Provide expert technical support on mechanical systems and equipment across the plant.
  • Develop and review engineering designs, specifications, and documentation.
  • Implement and optimise maintenance strategies, standards, and procedures.
  • Ensure strict adherence to HSE standards and COMAH requirements.
  • Participate in process safety assessments, including HAZOPs and risk evaluations.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical faults and failures promptly.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support operations and drive continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate and oversee third-party contractors and vendors on mechanical works.
  • Maintain detailed records of equipment performance, maintenance activities, and project documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in engineering and maintenance within a chemical, pharmaceutical, or petrochemical environment, ideally on a COMAH site.
Key Skills & Attributes
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and utilities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Solid understanding of HSE regulations and engineering standards.
  • Confident communicator with strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment

Salary £50-60K per annum
