
Mechanical Engineer – Chemical, Manchester
We have a very exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer working for a Chemical Manufacturing company in Manchester on a COMAG tiered site.
Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mechanical systems within a high-hazard COMAH-regulated chemical facility. This role plays a key part in delivering mechanical engineering projects, providing technical expertise, contributing to process safety efforts, and ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver mechanically-biased engineering projects from concept through to execution.
- Provide expert technical support on mechanical systems and equipment across the plant.
- Develop and review engineering designs, specifications, and documentation.
- Implement and optimise maintenance strategies, standards, and procedures.
- Ensure strict adherence to HSE standards and COMAH requirements.
- Participate in process safety assessments, including HAZOPs and risk evaluations.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical faults and failures promptly.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support operations and drive continuous improvement.
- Coordinate and oversee third-party contractors and vendors on mechanical works.
- Maintain detailed records of equipment performance, maintenance activities, and project documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Proven experience in engineering and maintenance within a chemical, pharmaceutical, or petrochemical environment, ideally on a COMAH site.

Salary £50-60K per annum
